Attach files to an event
Put the permission slip, gear list or map on the event itself, so families find it where they look for everything else.
Every event has a Files section for the documents that go with it — permission slips, gear lists, campground maps, medical forms, budgets.
Adding a file
Leaders (assistant leader and admin) see Add file on the event page. Tap it, choose the file, and it uploads with a progress bar. You can attach up to 20 files to an event, each up to 25 MB.
These kinds of files can be attached:
- Word (
.doc,.docx), Excel (.xls,.xlsx) and PowerPoint (.ppt,.pptx) - Plain text (
.txt) and CSV (.csv) - PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images
MyTroop checks what each file actually contains, not just its name. A file called slip.pdf that isn't really a PDF is refused with a message saying so. Rename it to its real type, or save it as a PDF, and try again.
Photos from the event belong in the event's Photos album instead — files are for documents.
Who can see the files
Anyone who can see the event can see and download its files:
- Every member of the troop, for every event.
- The public, on your public Events page, when the event is marked public. Don't attach anything to a public event that you wouldn't hand to a stranger. Use a separate, private event for medical forms and contact sheets.
Only leaders can add or remove files. A recurring event shares one set of files across every occurrence.
Downloading
Tap the download button next to a file. Download links are created when you tap and stop working after a few minutes, so a link copied out of the browser can't be passed around later. If a phone doesn't show the download, tap Download didn't start? Tap here.
Removing a file
Leaders tap the trash icon next to a file and confirm. The file is removed for everyone, and this can't be undone. Deleting the event removes its files too.
From an AI assistant
If you've connected an assistant with permission to edit events, it can attach a file to an event (up to 10 MB) and remove one. The same type check applies.
